We have arrived in Beijing! The flight was about 14 hours and it was just brutal. We succeeded in sleeping for maybe an hour or so. The Air China plane was poorly air conditioned so it was a bit hotter than we would like and we just could not get comfortable enough to sleep. I often found myself wandering the plane, looking at the scores of other people who were sleeping and feeling jealous.
Air China is not exactly a luxury airline. For example, the arm rests between most of the seats would not go up. Also, there were none of those little air blowers above you next to the lights. Naturally, there was no personal entertainment unit on the back of the seats, meaning we were forced to watch tiny screens 4 or 5 rows in front of us. I think they showed 3 or 4 different Chinese martial arts movies. They finally got around to showing an American movie toward the end of the flight – Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2. It was a curious choice considering there were no children under the age of 14 that I could see on the plane.
Our route was very interesting – we went over Canada and Alaska and then down through Russia to get to China. It was dark most of the time, but when the sunlight came through, we were over Siberia and Kathy took some amazing pictures out the window of white-topped Siberian mountains. I included a couple in this post.
By the way, all my posts will have to be done via email. I cannot even look at the blog page to see what is happening. I hope this works!!
