Ok, this is a weird one.
We’ve been eating like kings since we arrived here. I told you a bit about the Ritz’s breakfasts already. Those mammoth meals have been followed up by lunches and dinners that have been equally filling. We keep on sitting down at tables where we are brought 8-12 different items to eat -- almost always breaded, fried, and covered in heavy sauces. Lots of meats, not a lot of veggies. You practically have to roll us out of the meal.
But, here is the weird part about it. We are only given tiny little plates upon which to put all this food. These plates are often just 6 or so inches across. The plates inevitably get covered in leftover food and sauces. So, by the end of the meal, your sauces have combined to form some unrecognizable combination of curry, sweet & sour, and other stuff. Any food you put on your plate at that point will be infected by the combo sauce. I’ll be honest, it is sorta off-putting and frustrating.
One other weird thing about the meals… while there is always tons of food to eat, we almost never get enough to drink. For some reason, we get told at every meal how many glasses of drink we can have – often just one glass is allowed. We get really excited if they tell us we can have 2 glasses of water, beer, coke, or sprite (which are almost always the only options). The glasses are small and there is never any ice in the drinks. I suppose the lack of ice is a good thing as we have been told not to drink anything but bottled water or we risk getting sick. Still, I would kill for more than 6 ounces of cold coke at my next meal ;)
